Saturday we spent touring the region - Sunday was a little less structured - we spent the day walking around and exploring Antakya.

Investigating Antakya on foot with Elizabeth and Kevin |
We walked to St. Peter Church, which is one of the very first churches Christian's worshiped in - it is carved out of the mountain and contains an escape route at the rear of the cave.

Mountain that contains St. Peter Church - you can see tombs built into the side of the mountain |

From there we walked through the older neighborhoods which depending on the street were very busy with either traffic, or children playing - always full of life. One of the streets was reported to be the first lighted street in the world - the original road underneath the street in the picture below was built by the Romans and contained lights.
